An associate in business administration degree can offer students a number of benefits. Some of them are:

    • It can take half the time needed to complete a bachelor’s degree.
    • You can save on tuition as they are shorter online degree programs in business administration when compared to a bachelor’s degree.
    • There are fewer general education courses required so you may get to study core coursework sooner than you think.
    • You can start working and gaining real world experience right after you graduate while still having the option to complete an advanced degree using credits you have already earned.

There are typically two different types of online business administration associate degrees available to choose from. While topics do overlap, there is a difference between the two degrees.

An AS degree requires you to take more liberal arts classes than an AAS. This is because an AS degree program prepares you to move on to a bachelor’s degree program in business administration. There can be a strong emphasis on math and science courses along with a few humanities electives.

AAS degrees are considered to be vocational degrees that focus on the practical application of business topics. They do cover basic business theories as well. An AAS degree program may also allow you to choose a specialization. It is important to note that credits from many AAS degree programs may not be transferrable to bachelor’s degree programs without taking additional college courses. AAS degree programs can be ideal for individuals who are sure of the aspect of business they want to enter.

You may also find Associate of Arts (AA) business administration degrees being offered online. AA degree programs have a greater emphasis on liberal arts than AS programs. Usually, credits earned from these programs can be transferred toward a more advanced degree. AA programs may suit individuals who are not very sure of the discipline they wish to focus on in the future.

A college education can be crucial to becoming a well-rounded person and developing expertise in areas of your interest, reports the Southern New Hampshire University. According to the Georgetown University Center on Education and the Workforce, “good jobs are growing the fastest among workers with associate degrees,” in industries like government services, consulting and business services, financial services, healthcare services and more.

An online associate in business administration program can help you to gain valuable work experience by allowing you to work as you learn and to apply your knowledge to your work as you gain it. Internships and practicums can also help you gain the experience that employers look for when choosing potential candidates for supervisory roles.

An associate degree in business administration can help you prepare to enter the workforce with the skills and credentials needed to qualify for jobs that pay higher than you would earn as a high school graduate. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, holders of an associate degree in 2017 earned an average of $6,448 a year more when compared to individuals with only a high school diploma. Prospective students can focus on the business area of their choice by choosing from a variety of concentrations, such as customer service or sales.

Apart from the potential to land better-paying jobs and gain work experience, online associate degrees in business administration can also act as stepping stones toward higher degrees.

While there are a number of careers you can pursue as seen in the above table, we explain below how you can become an administrative services manager with your online associate degree in business administration.

    Fastest-Growing Occupations

Administrative service managers coordinate the various support services of an organization and supervise the clerical personnel of an organization. They may be responsible for the administrative needs of one or more departments. Apart from overseeing the needs of a facility, an administrative manager may also be in-charge of managing a company’s records.

    Step 1: Needed prerequisites:

Administrative services managers need to be able to lead teams of people according to the BLS. The College Board agrees adding that administrative managers also need to be ‘organized, alert and aware’.

Step 2: Education / work experience required:

The educational requirements for administrative services managers can vary from a high school diploma to a bachelor’s degree according to the BLS. Related work experience in supervisory roles and in can also help. For example, records managers should have experience in clerical and record keeping roles.

    Certifications

Although certifications are not mandatory they can demonstrate your expertise in and dedication to a particular aspect of the field. Additionally, completing a certification may give you an advantage over other candidates while looking for a job. One example of such a certification is the Certified Supervisor Certification which can help you show that you are committed to developing your leadership skills. You may need to have a certain amount of work experience and/or educational qualifications and pass an examination in order to be eligible for a particular certification. Additionally you may need to renew your certification periodically. Examples of other certifications include:
