Online degrees in event planning
Sometimes called meeting managers, event planners are responsible for all aspects of an event from providing cost estimates to maintaining schedules to implementation. These highly organized professionals come from all types of educational backgrounds, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), which also notes, "Many employers prefer applicants who have a bachelor's degree."
While meeting planning or event planning degrees are a great way to get a foot in the door to the field, a bachelor's degree in marketing or sales can also lead to career opportunities. Some schools' hospitality or tourism degree programs include event planning, and the BLS indicates that several colleges offer bachelor's or master's degrees in meeting management.
To shore up event-specific skill sets, students who already have a degree in another field can enroll in an event planning certificate program or an associate degree program. Certificate programs are highly focused and include five to seven courses. Associate degree programs typically expand upon the certificate courses and include a core curriculum.
