Accounting experts predict that client expansion for high-profile accounting firms, as well as mergers between smaller firms, will provide significant industry growth over the years to come. For the analytically-minded, an accounting degree program online can provide a brand new career in this growing field.
The Big Four accounting firms are "stretched to the max," according to a 2006 industry newsletter. What this means is that local and regional accounting firms are providing more job opportunities than they ever have before.
The Sarbanes-Oxley act of 2002 has also created a greater need for stricter accounting. In order to comply with the new federal regulations, many businesses are hiring the services of accounting firms, and are choosing smaller firms to save costs.
An online degree has become the choice of more and more students, for the flexibility it affords them. Especially for adults who are already working and/or have families, an online degree program may be the only way to get an education. Over two million students are already earning their degrees online.
Accounting Jobs
An online degree program in accounting prepares students for entry-level positions at accounting firms, or as accountants, bookkeepers, auditors, and actuaries at other businesses. Graduates from an online degree program in accounting can also find jobs at universities, non-profit organizations and in government offices.
The average annual salary of accountants was $50,770 two years ago, according to a study by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. And the average starting salary ($43,269) was above average for a college graduate.
With certificates, diplomas, and degrees in accounting available through online education, your career in accounting could be as little as two years away.
