Radio Operators

Job Summary:
Radio operators are responsible for receiving and sending communications using radio equipment. They should be able to repair faulty equipment. They should be well versed with handling radio equipment. Their major task is to keep communication systems in working order at all times. There is intense competition in this field. The broadcasting industry and the movie making industry are the main employers of radio operators. They should be willing to work long hours and in shifts. With technology making giant strides in communication, it is necessary for radio operators to learn new techniques, which are fast emerging.

Qualification:
No formal training required. Experience on the job is the main criteria. With experience growth prospects increase.

Salary Range:
Ranges from $20,000 to $60,000.

Prospects:
Prospects for radio operators are good though the competition is intense. Job opportunities would be more in small cities and towns compared to huge cities. The broadcasting industry will be the main employer followed by the motion picture industry.
