Pastry Chef
Job Summary: Pastry chefs cook for the specific clientele who visit the establishment they are employed in. Pastry chefs are actually bakers who bake bread, cakes and the like. They bake these products manually and do not use automated machines. They create bakery products in small quantities. They are responsible for mixing the dough, the ingredients, the fillings etc. They are also required to present the product in an attractive manner. Large hotel establishments employ Pastry chefs and they are in charge of the bakery department. Qualification: A high school diploma is required plus a lot of zeal for baking (culinary degree is essential). One becomes a pastry chef only after gaining experience. Salary Range: Pastry chefs earn in the range of $12 per hour to $22 per hour on an average. Prospects: Prospects are great as there are many number of job openings available. Part time job prospects are plentiful. Since many chefs start their own food units once they have earned a name for themselves or if they have been in the field for quite sometime, the requirement for pastry chefs would be stable. Increase in population means more people who will eat out and this in turn has a direct result on the number of job openings for pastry chefs and chefs in particular.
