Nuclear Engineer
Job Summary: Nuclear engineers, as the name suggests, develop systems to benefit through nuclear energy and radiation. They develop, maintain and operate nuclear power plants. They are also responsible for disposal of waste from nuclear plants without harming the ecosystem. Nuclear engineers also work in the space agencies and help in the creation of spacecraft. They also specialize in researching and developing the medical uses of radioactive material (for example, radiation therapy). Most nuclear engineers work in scientific and technical research laboratories. Some percentage works with the Government and is responsible for looking after power plants. Many work in the defense department. Qualification: Bachelor's degree in Nuclear Engineering is essential. Salary Range: Ranges from $60,000 to $150,000. Prospects: Not many people take up nuclear engineering as a study discipline. Due to the disparity between supply and demand the job opportunities for nuclear engineers are bound to be there. Most job opportunities would arise from people quitting or retiring from present jobs.
