Medical and Health Services Manager

Job Summary:
Healthcare is a booming business. All healthcare services need good managers. People who manage healthcare services are known as Medical and health services managers. Medical and health services managers are required to organize and supervise the whole facility. Some medical and health services managers also specialize in a particular clinical department.

Medical and health care services managers should be able to adjust to change. They should be able to adopt new technologies. They should aim for an increase in preventive care. They should be willing to work long hours and at the same time maintain the efficiency of the staff and self. In big healthcare facilities medical and healthcare services managers have assistants who help them in clinical areas. In small facilities the manager manages most of the day-to-day work.

Medical and Health services managers who have specialized as clinical managers have additional responsibilities. They have to assess staff, their work, take care of the policies, manage and interact with other clinical managers etc.

Medical and health services managers need to work in tandem with physicians. They usually need to take care of all administrative decisions, budgeting, human resources management etc. They have to be involved in all day-to-day business activities. They should be well versed with most health systems.

Qualification:
A bachelor's degree in health services administration is essential for entry-level positions. A master's degree in health services administration is required for higher-level positions. For clinical administrators specialization in a particular department is essential. All positions require familiarity and understanding of management policies and procedures.

Salary Range:
Ranges from $40,000 to $120,000.

Prospects:
Prospects for Medical and health services managers are very good. Most opportunities would arise in outpatient care centers, physician?s offices etc. Hospitals will have fewer openings compared to others, as cost cutting seems to be the norm nowadays. Professionals with experience will be in huge demand.
