Job Summary: A medical secretary has to be very knowledgeable regarding hospital and laboratory procedures and norms. Has to be completely familiar with medical terminology. Should be able to take notes and compile medical charts, reports etc. Some medical secretaries also perform additional duties like sending bills and fixing appointments. They should be willing to learn new technologies and implementing them. Should be a good listener and effective communicator. Medical secretaries need to be good transcribers. Should be able to record a patient?s medical history. Should be able to order supplies when required. Should prepare reports to assist medical scientists. Should assist physicians in conferences. Should be familiar with insurance and medical billing practices. Qualification: Vocational school training is the minimum requirement. Salary Range: Ranges from $20,000 to $35,000. Prospects: Job prospects for medical secretaries are very good. Medical secretaries are needed in every hospital and clinic.
