Mechanical Engineer

Job Summary:
Mechanical Engineers, as the name suggests are involved in mechanics. They are involved in manufacturing, maintenance, testing, tool and die making, research and development of mechanical equipment. Mechanical Engineers work in laboratories as Scientists and undertake research and development work for production of engines, motors, turbines, machine tools etc. In the manufacturing sector they work in the new equipment production, quality control, R&D, maintenance and support departments. They are well versed with computers and use Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM) for creating new designs, simulation and manufacturing of machine tools.

Qualification:
Minimum requirement is a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering. A master's in mechanical engineering will be an added advantage for faster professional growth.

Salary Range:
Ranges from $48,000 to around $100,000.

Prospects:
Due to slowdown in the economy, employment prospects will be below average. There will be some opportunities in the research field like biotechnology and nanotechnology. However, in industry the vacancies will arise primarily on account of replacement of the existing engineers.
