Laboratory Technician

Job Summary:
Laboratory technicians check drug levels in blood, check body fluids for bacteria, parasites etc. They have to match blood groups for blood transfusions. They use complicated equipment and perform many tests to detect the real cause of the patient?s problems and inform the physician about it.

Laboratory technologists perform complex tests and laboratory technicians? work on normal procedures and tests. Laboratory technicians should be able to analyze tissue specimens, collect blood samples and carry out manual tests. Laboratory technologists supervise the work of laboratory technicians. They should be willing to adapt and learn new technologies, as they are making a huge impact on the way laboratories work.

Qualification:
Laboratory technicians require an associate degree from junior college or a certificate from a hospital. Technicians who learn on the job are few.

Salary Range:
Ranges from $20,000 to $50,000.
