Chemical Engineer
Job Summary: Chemical engineers amalgamate chemistry and engineering to create pharmaceutical products, consumer products, petroleum products etc. They are involved in the construction, production and also in the treatment of waste in the manufacturing process. They devise equipment for developing chemicals and raw materials into products for daily use. Chemical engineers are employed in other industries like paper manufacturing industry, garment industry, biotechnology etc. Chemical engineers specialize in a particular field like Bioprocess, Environment protection, Petroleum and Natural Gas, Minerals etc. Chemical engineers should be able to devise ways and means of producing useful products using minerals and chemicals. They should be able to make these products in an environment friendly way and adhere to all safety norms. They should be able to design huge plants. They should be able to work on improving cost efficiency and increasing the output in the manufacturing plant. They should be able to identify problems and solve them. Chemical engineers should be willing to work long hours as well. Qualification: A bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering is essential. A master's degree increases growth prospects. Salary Range: Ranges from $50,000 to $120,000. Prospects: Employment opportunities for Chemical Engineers in the manufacturing sector would arise mainly due to people switching jobs or retiring. Chemical Engineers would be in demand in the Research and Development wings of Chemical companies. Other sectors that would require Chemical Engineers are the Paper industry and the services sector involved in chemical testing. All in all Chemical Engineers would be able to get good jobs.
