Broadcast Technician
Job Summary: Broadcast technicians, as the name suggests, are responsible for the installing, operating and maintaining of devices used in transmitting and receiving signals of television and radio stations. They are also required to work with satellite equipment for receiving and sending signals. Broadcast technicians should check the devices, repair faulty wirings, assemblies etc. Before broadcasting they should do a test to check whether all the equipment are working fine. Should be willing to learn and incorporate new technologies. Though broadcast technicians mainly work indoors from studios, sometimes they may have to work in outdoor locations. The job requires working in shifts and also lifting heavy equipment while moving them. Qualification: A high school diploma is the minimum requirement. Experience is a major factor for growth. Most technicians learn on the job. Salary Range: Ranges from $20,000 to $75,000. Prospects: Overall prospects for broadcast technicians are very good. Beginners might find it difficult to obtain jobs in big cities, but in smaller towns they would probably get a lot of jobs. With the growing cable industry and new television networks the demand for experienced broadcast technicians is bound to grow. Motion picture industry also employs a fair share of broadcast technicians.
