Job Summary:
Bookkeeping is the art of updation and maintenance of a firm?s accounts. A bookkeeper performs a clerical function whereby he posts transactions like income, expense, assets and liabilities into the computer system. He prepares vouchers from the source documents, verifies and balances accounts, cash, bank transactions etc. They handle primary data, which is then used as the base for preparing various financial statements. Bookkeepers handle the entire accounting upto finalization of accounts in small organizations. In large organizations there are various types of bookkeepers like cashier, receivable/ payable clerk, reconciliation clerk, etc.

Qualification:
Bachelor's or Associate's degree in Bookkeeping and Auditing is essential.

Salary Range:
Ranges from $24,000 onwards.

Prospects:
Bookkeepers are essential for every organization; therefore there will be steady demand. Bookkeepers with experience and complete knowledge of accounting procedures would be in much demand than specialized clerks.
