Art Directors

Job Summary:
Are responsible and accountable for the creative work (art work) churned out by artists, photographers, copywriters, graphic designers and other sundry production staff for magazines, daily publications advertisements, or products of business houses.

Conceptualization and ideation is important. Should be able to provide the necessary direction for original graphics, layouts and artwork. Should communicate with corporate clients, trade and impart packaging ideas, provide brand and product as well as corporate identity for the client and coordinate web, multimedia and TV commercials.

Communication – both written and spoken should be top notch. Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator as well as Quark Express. Proficiency in Macintosh Operating System is needed. Should have a questioning mind and posses in abundance trouble shooting skills. Should possess good knowledge on scheduling frames of different publications. Should be able to critically analyze the materials that are to be published in periodicals, newspapers, magazines, other printed media, including of course, digital media. To present visually the info, data, graphics and design to attract instant attention. Not only the presentation should be excellent, but also the value of ‘recall’ should be very high. They decide which copy matter to use for better effect, which graphics or photographs to be used for optimal effect and which color combination to be rendered to make the total mix a stunning success.

Qualification:
An Art Degree from a University plus a specialized diploma in art direction.

Salary Range:
The salary depends on the experience and qualification. For a beginner it is between $23,000 to $32,000 per annum. Art directors at a high level get between $65,000 to $120,000 per annum.

Prospects:
There is a good prospect for the right candidate. Art Directors are needed in Public Relations outfits, Advertising companies, Designing firms, Publishing companies etc., to name a few. With the globalization of economics the demand for good copy and overall design is growing. The number of public relation oriented companies, advertising companies, publication companies, packaging companies and big business houses with their own packaging and advertising departments in house have been multiplying phenomenally and the scope for a good Art Director is therefore on the up.
